The two-stage lumbar support system is integrated into the backrest of a premium-quality T back seats. This uses the air supply from the seat's built-in air compressor or the machine's air supply to completely inflate, supporting the operator's lumbar location and creating a buffer against shock and jarring.
MMT will be installing the lumbar system into the premium quality ISRI seating range, currently the only real product on the market to have a flexible back rest that can be angled for increased operator comfort and support.
Managing Director Garry Spouge, which founded MMT in 1992, said the company had refined and started to provide the innovative seating product in the last twelve months, as demand for safer and more comfortable seating technology in the underground mining field grown.
"Safety is the number one priority for all mining businesses around Australia, and that obviously includes employee safety and well being, which was the starting point for us with regards to developing this lumbar support system," Mr Spouge said.

Mr Spouge asserted MMT had previously investigated and manufactured the same T backed seats for underground mining equipment, but the prototype did not have a flexible lumbar support.
